There are many reasons to visit Burgundy. We will mention here some possibilities for daytrips you can easely manage out of Mongazon. The historical towns of Autun, Nevers, La-Charité-sur-Loire, Clamecy, Auxerre, Avallon or Bourges;
The many religious buildings in nearly every village, including the Unesco culturul monuments of Vézelay, La-Charité-sur-Loire and Fontenay;
Amongst the many small (privat) castles (nearly every village has one or more) there are also greater buildings you can visit. Very interesting are the castles of Bazoches and St. Fargeau and don't forget the medieval building place of the castle of Guédelon;
Apremont-sur-Allier belongs to one the most beautiful villages in France. It is urrounded by magnificant gardens (can be visited) and a castle. At the same day you can also visit the protected area in the river "Loire" named "le Bec d'Allier" and the canalbridge of Guétin;
The vineyards of Pouilly sur Loire, Sancerre, Chablis, Tannay and some smaller can be reached very well out of Mongazon. In several places there are a lot of possibilities to taste wine in very old cellars.
Mongazon is surrounded by a lot of Nature, for example the natural park of the Morvan (it has a surface of 195000 hectares and is one of the greatest parks in France) and the magnificant river of the Loire. Walking for hours in the woods of Bertranges, Prémery and St. Franchy, all together thausends of hectares. Of great importance for the nature are the lakes of Baye and Vaux and the canal of Nivernais.
Wenn there is any time left, you can visit the pottery-region of St.Amand-en-Puisaye. For rainy days we can advise you to go to one of the various kind of museums.
